Park Street at Christmas
The old capital of British India, with one of the country's largest Anglo-Indian communities, still keeps the season: Park Street strung with lights by Chandannagar's illuminators, carols and bands at Allen Park, plum-cake queues at Flurys and Nahoum's, and street celebrations in Bow Barracks, the red-brick Raj-era barracks that became an Anglo-Indian neighborhood.
Runs through the second half of December into New Year; check the year's dates. Park Street turns pedestrian-only and very crowded on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, so go early in the evening. Midnight Mass at St Paul's Cathedral is a tradition of its own.
